Tom’s Guide declares Computer Direct Outlet’s Volta: Just Plain Powerful
GREENVILLE, S.C., May 05, 2016 — Computer Direct Outlet’s Volta VZ desktop workstation has scored another major review – this time from one of the leading magazines in the tech industry world.
Tom’s Guide declared the Volta VZ “practical, easy-to-upgrade design and beefy gaming performance make it a strong choice for those seeking a gaming desktop that won’t look out of place in the office,” in a recent review.
The review was written by Mike Andronico, a Tom’s Guide associate editor, who wrote glowingly about the Volta’s gaming capabilities. Each product Tom’s Guide reviews is thoroughly tested and evaluated based on the following criteria: design, ease of use, features, performance and value.
“Its performance is as impressive as that of any PC I’ve reviewed in this price range. CDO offers plenty of options for making your Volta VR-ready and then some, and while the PC’s design is plain, it’s also a breeze to upgrade,” he wrote.
The Volta carries an Intel Core i7-6700K processor with 16GB of RAM, which Tom’s Guide put to the test as Andronico watched five Twitch streams, downloaded a game from Steam and ran a full-system scan all at once and never experienced a slowdown.
Unlike a lot of its competitors, the Volta carries a lifetime warranty.
Andronico also wrote extensively about the Volta’s virtual reality abilities, which is a growing major component in the gaming world.
“The PC crushed the SteamVR performance test, which runs a quick Portal-themed demo and rates a machine on a spectrum of Not Ready (Red), Capable (Yellow) and Ready (Green). The Volta landed as far into the green as possible, with an average quality rating of 11,” he wrote. “Just to be safe, I also ran the Oculus Rift Compatibility tool, which scans your PC to ensure you have the proper components and ports for the Rift. Unsurprisingly, the Volta checked off all of the necessary boxes.”
Computer Direct’s Volta line has been gaining a lot of national recognition in the past few months. Its front panel opens revealing a DVD-RW drive, an optional hard-drive bay and two pop-open doors that let you access the PC’s front-facing fans.
Gary Underwood, Computer Direct’ owner, said this review further shows why the Volta is gaining a strong reputation in the gaming community and beyond.
“We build the Volta to be a powerful machine, and the Tom’s Guide review shows that,” he said. “This confirms what our customers have been telling us.”
The Tom’s Guide review noted the Volta’s plain aesthetics, which it considered a drawback, but Underwood said is done intentionally. Computer Direct deliberately made a machine that would stand on its own in terms of capabilities and not on features that don’t add to the gaming experience.
“We wanted something that was simple and classic,” he said. “In our case, less is better.”
